Nicole McEvoy, MA, RP (Qualifying)

Nicole McEvoy (she/her) has a Masters of Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Behavioural Psychology, and is a registered psychotherapist (qualifying). She specializes in working with military families, people of the LGBTQ+ community, anxiety, chronic pain, stress, burnout, creating healthy boundaries, depression, PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

She has also received a certificate in Queering Identities: LGBTQ+ Sexuality and Gender Identity through the University of Colorado and an Indigenous Canada certificate through the University of Alberta. Nicole has experience working with military families through the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre and working with LGBTQ+ people.

Nicole’s upbringing makes her familiar with the unique struggles of military families. They are subject to regular family stresses, but they also deal with the grief and stressors that ensue from postings, deployments, work assignments, and operational stress injuries of the service members. Being raised in an RCMP family and a mother herself, Nicole has a special understanding and level of compassion for military families.

Nicole also has personal experience with long-term pain and chronic injuries. She is familiar with the mind/body connection that places chronic pain sufferers in uniquely vulnerable positions with their mental health and welcomes chronic pain sufferers who want to explore this.

Nicole is a person-centered therapist. She believes a person’s stress comes from a disparity between their lived and actual selves. She seeks to find the source of incongruence within the person and to help them live a life that is true to their actual selves. Nicole does pull from other modalities, such as ACT, DBT, and CBT, however, her approach is entirely client-lead.
